The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels, with ongoing conflict resulting in at least 43,000 fatalities and over 100,000 injuries. Nearly 1.9 million people, including 43,000 pregnant women, have been displaced, often repeatedly, as infrastructure crumbles and access to essential services like food, water, and healthcare becomes severely restricted. Health facilities are heavily impacted, with only two out of 20 healthcare points still functioning in northern Gaza. The widespread destruction, marked by attacks on hospitals, has left an estimated 42,000 pregnant women in crisis-level food insecurity, and thousands face imminent hunger as winter approaches.
UNFPA has responded by delivering critical sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services throughout Gaza and the West Bank. This includes distributing reproductive health kits and providing emergency obstetric care in containerized clinics and safe spaces. UNFPA’s efforts have reached over 70,000 individuals with GBV risk mitigation services and have supported 3,500 women and youth through educational initiatives. Additionally, UNFPA has distributed dignity kits to over 5,000 women and girls and essential medical supplies to support emergency care and safe deliveries across multiple facilities.
As part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory Flash Appeal, UNFPA requested US$ 90.2 million for its operational response from January to December 2024. As of October 2024, UNFPA has received US$ 63.7 million, leaving an urgent funding gap of US$ 26.5 million to fully support its operations through the end of the year.
