UNFPA’s programme data shows that girls in humanitarian settings face a web of violence throughout the course of their lives. Denial of resources and opportunities, restrictions on movement, harassment, child and serial marriages, internet-related risks such as online harassment and sextortion, and many other forms of gender-based violence have become daily realities for many.

The following pages feature narratives told directly in the voices of adolescent girls in humanitarian settings throughout the region.

Despite the many challenges that beset them, adolescent girls are also among the most overlooked population segments when it comes to humanitarian programming. More often than not, they are targeted with ad-hoc interventions that seldom incorporate their voices into the design and development process, making it that much harder to take their unique needs into account.
