East Jerusalem (EJ) is struggling for survival; on one hand, it is disconnected from the broader Palestinian economy due to the impact of the separation barrier, leading to a deterioration of East Jerusalem's economy.  On the other hand, Israel is implementing policies aimed at suffocating what remains of the EJ economy.  This isolation and the resulting economic decline have produced a steady socio-economic and psychological deterioration of EJ Palestinian communities, affecting all aspects of life, contributing to an escalation in the incidence of gender-based violence committed against vulnerable groups in EJ Palestinian communities.
