A Press Conference was organized on 27 July 2011 in the Gaza Strip under the theme “Unleashing the power of women and girls will accelerate progress”.  The conference was attended by 30 participants representing different organizations and media outlets, including among others Aljazeera live. UNFPA Representative, Ms. Barbara Piazza Georgi, opened the conference with a statement that highlighted on the challenges and opportunities in a world of 7 billion, in addition to explaining the campaign’s objectives and themes.  The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics provided an overview on the situation of Palestinian population in 2011, followed by a statement on the situation of Palestinian Women from the Culture and Free Thought Association, a long standing partner of UNFPA. The conference was closed with an overview on the situation of population in Gaza, provided by a national demographic expert.
