HE Dr. Shukry Bishara, Minister of Planning and Finance, and Mr. Anders Thomsen, UNFPA Representative, signed on 22 December, 2014 the 5th Country Programme Action Plan for the State of Palestine. The total budget for this programme that will be implemented during the period 2015-2017 is  US$ 9,100,000.

 

“The programme was  developed within the context of national Palestinian priorities and in line with the UNFPA Strategic Plan (2014-2017) promoting the implementation of the Programme of Action (PoA) of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Palestine” said Mr. Thomsen. He added that the programme will contribute to strengthening the capacity and resilience of people and institutions, in pursuit of the statehood agenda, and sustainable human development for all people in Palestine.

HE Dr. Bishara thanked UNFPA for its work and support to the Palestinian people, and he extended the Palestinian Government`s full support for the achievement of the programme`s objectives.  

UNFPA  programme aims to: (a) improve access to quality reproductive health care; (b) scale up gender-based violence (GBV) protection and response; (c) promote empowerment of young people through improved access to reproductive health information and services, civic participation and leadership and healthy lifestyles; and (d) generate evidence to inform population policies and programmes that respond to emerging demographic challenges.
