The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) published a new study entitled “Risky behaviors among Palestinian workers in Israel ”, in cooperation with UNFPA and the Palestinian Ministry of Health.  The study aimed to diagnose the status, conditions and behaviors of the Palestinian workers in Israel, through a participatory methodology with workers and with local experts.  The study also aimed to identify the various factors and challenges that affect workers during their travel to work as well as in the workplace itself.

The study analyzed the issues associated with the general and sexual behaviors of these workers through in-depth discussions of their personal experience or the experience of their colleagues in order to formulate, on behalf of these workers, relevant recommendations for concerned parties. In addition, the study contributed implicitly in drawing a picture of the behavior of these workers in the labor market and the relationship to sexual transmitted infections especially HIV/AIDS.

The findings highlighted the issues of sexual behavior and the labor market in Israel as vital ones that necessitate discussions and investigations as indicated by the workers themselves as well as by experts who participated in this study. These serious issues become of greater importance due to the possible multiple consequences on the families of these workers as well as on local communities. Such findings highlight the need to formulate short and long strategies.
