Following the consultation meeting on integrating reproductive rights into the work of national human rights institutions that was co-sponsored by UNFPA and hosted by Human Rights Commission of Malaysia in June 2011, of which representatives of Palestine and Jordan country offices, in addition to ASRO participated in this meeting from the Arab Region. UNFPA Palestine office held an orientation session for the staff of the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) on 17 August 2011 in Ramallah. The one-day session was held in a form of round table discussion that included presentations on UNFPA work, reproductive and sexual rights and gender equality. Interventions from UNFPA staff focussed on UNFPA’s mandate and work in oPt, while underlining mutual interests and cross-cutting issues with the ICHR as potential partner for UNFPA. A set of recommendations were agreed on at the end of this session. A similar session will take place in the Gaza strip in the near future. |
