Japan grants USD 446,428 to Reproductive Health Services in the Gaza Strip and Vulnerable Communities in the West Bank
RAMALLAH, State of Palestine, 8 April 2019 – The Government of Japan contributed USD 446,428 in support of UNFPA’s humanitarian response to women, girls and children protection and medical needs and combatting breast cancer in the state of Palestine.
This grant will enable the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to assist an estimated number of 70,000 people, especially women and girls, including training for 250 health care providers. More specifically, UNFPA will be working closely together with the Ministry of Health, Japanese NGO called Campaign for Children of Palestine “CCP”, Palestinian Medical Relief Society and other NGOs as well as national health care centres to ensure access to sexual and reproductive health services including family planning, safe births, antenatal and post-natal care for pregnant women and women in the reproductive age. The grant will also support midwifery and breast cancer programmes; awareness raising, screening and access to services through mobile clinic and community campaigns. This contribution is leveraging the response of the ongoing dire humanitarian situation which created an urgent needs of medical supplies, equipment and service support.

UNFPA is one of our important partners to implement humanitarian assistance targeting women’s health and protection in Palestine.” said Mr. Takeshi Okubo, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine.
