Pathway to Survival - the Story of Breast Cancer in Palestine

Throughout the last seventeen years, Palestinians have been experiencing a remarkable increase in cancer cases that doubled from 1,073 cases in 2000 to reach 2536 cases in 2016 in the West Bank alone. The year 2016 witnessed an increase of 5.8% in cancer cases in comparison with 2015, and cancer was the second leading cause of mortality as 14% of mortality cases were caused by cancer, after cardiovascular diseases (30.6%). Worldwide, breast cancer kills a woman every 15 minutes. In Palestine, breast cancer affecting Palestinian women represents 15% of cancer cases.

Youth in Palestine 2017

Publication

Youth (aged 15 - 29) comprise 30% of the total population in Palestine, and all children and youth under the age of 29 comprise 50% of the total Palestinian population.

Although the rapidly increasing youth population can cause extreme stress on already underdeveloped infrastructure (education, health, social services, urban infrastructure, housing, and access to economic opportunity), a large youth popuation can also be seen as "missed opportunity".

External Evaluation

Working Together to Stop Gender Based Violence, Final External Evaluation

As part of the regional UNFPA project entitled "Innovations to Eliminate Gender-based-violence in Humanitarian Contexts", "Working Together to Stop Gender-based-violence" project was created, implemented by UNFPA and supported by the MInistry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.  Phase I extended between 1 May 2014 and 31 December 2015, while phase two covered the period from 1 June 2016 - 31 December 2016.
