Impact of the ‘Great March of Return’ on Gender-based Violence
The humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate. Since 30 March 2018, the Gaza Strip has been tense with weekly demonstrations held by Palestinians beside Israel’s perimeter fence as part of the ‘Great March of Return’. As of 8 June 2018, 101 Palestinians were killed in the context of the demonstrations, including 13 children and more than 13,000 were injured. Other 34 Palestinians were killed during the same period in contexts other than demonstrations. The large number of casualties is expected to increase the risk of gender-based violence (GBV) of the women impacted.
